How to make money travel blogging

One of my most popular guest posts was one I wrote for the Ytravelblog titled “What to do in Bodrum Turkey“. It’s a good source of inbound traffic to my Bodrum Peninsula Travel Guide website, because the Ytravel website is a high-traffic travel blog and they know a thing or two about how to make money travel blogging.

How to Make Money Travel Blogging

Caz and Craig (who run YTravel) have made a career out of building a travel blogging brand, and wrote an informative article about How to Make Money Travel Blogging:

The number one item on their list of how to make money travel blogging is their OWN PRODUCTS.

Creating your own products or services is a stable way to earn an income off your travel blog. We now have two eBooks published, How to create the travel life you love and Step into Sacredness: 12 principles for creating the life your soul yearns for.

It actually took Caz and Craig 3 years to dive into this income stream, and I get a sense from their article that they wished they’d investigated this option sooner. But they’re making up for lost time and now have courses and books under their belt.

They gave the following advice:

When you write that business plan of yours for your travel blog, start investigating the different products you can create and the value you can provide through them. (Be creative, there’s so much you can do)

I couldn’t agree more. I wish I’d thought about writing an ebook when I launched my travel blog, and I would have written and produced my first travel guide a lot sooner. (It seems like Caz and Craig aren’t the only ones who could have benefited from hindsight!)

But … it’s never too late to add your own products.

How you can Make Money Travel Blogging

If you’ve just realised that you want to make a career out of travel blogging, or want to turn your travel writing hobby into a revenue stream, then you should look at creating your own products.

The first item on your list for consideration should be an ebook. Why?

  • An ebook is something that you can publish yourself with minimal financial outlay.
  • Once published, your ebook becomes a passive income stream (as long as it’s well written and you continually promote it to your target audience)

Here’s some ideas for your first travel blogger product:

  • A travel guide ebook for your destination niche
  • A niche travel guide book to help other travellers e.g. packing light, preparing for round the world travel, staying for next-to-nothing around the world (i.e. house sitting)
  • A handbook to help other travel bloggers achieve the lifestyle you’ve created for yourself

Let’s face it, you’re already travel writing and living a travel bloggers lifestyle you have the base content available to convert your blog posts to chapters. Then when you have enough chapters created, you have the makings of a book.
